Stephen Curry and Draymond Green had the last laugh the first time they hosted former teammate and current Dallas Mavericks guard Klay Thompson in the Golden State Warriors arena. They even happily talked about it post game and on other social media platform.
The second time goes to the Mavericks shooter.
Thompson scored 29 points in the win against his former team, including huge threes in the fourth quarter when the Warriors were trying to get back to the game.
It is no secret that Thompson, who won four championships with the Dubs, aims to prove something under a new uniform, especially against the Warriors.
Mavs coach Jason Kidd thinks that desire was obvious on Sunday.
“I think he was fired up,” Kidd told reporters after game when askef about Klay’s performance.
“There is emotion coming back here. Winning championships and being in a lot of battles on the other side. His confidence to be able to make big shots in the rhythm of the offense was (great).”
Everything clicked for the Mavs at the Chase Center.
Luka Doncic led both teams with his 9th 40-point triple double after recording 45-11-13.
Klay Thompson’s heart flutters due to Warriors fans
Although he is all about standing on business against his former team, Thompson remains grateful about his supporters from that city.
There is no longer the captain hat which was used for the tribute during his first game back. What’s visible though are the no. 11 jerseys that Thompson used to wear for the Dubs.
“It still warms my heart to see all the No. 11 jerseys and it still makes me incredible grateful for the time I did have here. Legendary stuff,” Thompson said.
The gratefulness does not shadow his desire to help the Mavs.
“Now it’s time to do some legendary stuff in Dallas. I truly believe in this team. We have all the ingredients to be really special.”
