Jaxson Hayes has been in the NBA spotlight off late, but for all the wrong reasons this time. The Los Angeles Lakers power forward was reportedly involved in abusing his ex-girlfriend, Sofia Jamora. The news broke out when TMZ published a video of Hayes abusing his ex-girlfriend verbally and physically. NBA fans were taken by surprise after watching the video, and many were shocked to learn about Hayes’ behavior.

The incident took place in Los Angeles in 2021 when Hayes was with the New Orleans Pelicans. The 24-year-old seemed to verbally and physically abuse Jamora. Hayes spat and pushed his ex-girlfriend, as seen in the video. Jamora called for help, but Hayes became more aggressive and started to destroy furniture.

Many have condemned this unruly behavior from Hayes, including NBA analyst Rachel A. DeMita. The 34-year-old took to social media saying that the league should not have any tolerance for domestic violence.

“NBA should have a zero tolerance policy for domestic violence like what are we doing,” DeMita said on X. Several fans agreed as they rallied to support DeMita.

Jaxson Hayes And The Lakers Ready To Cooperate With The League

The NBA has started an investigation into Jaxon Hayes’ abusive behavior. While the league will continue to do what feels right, the Lakers and Hayes have stated they are ready to cooperate with the league.

Lakers coach JJ Redick said that the team is going to cooperate fully. Jaxson Hayes also opened up after the NBA reopened the investigation. Hayes said that he and the team are working on cooperating with the league but did not comment further on the issue.

“We’re obviously aware that the investigation has been reopened, and we’re going to cooperate fully. But other than that, I’m not going to have any further comment on that,” Hayes said.

Despite the investigation launched, Jaxson Hayes has continued to play for the Lakers. He played against the Detroit Pistons, scoring five points, three rebounds, and a steal. Redick decided to give Hayes some minutes on the court, and he’s expected to play again.

Jaxon Hayes had received no punishment from the league, but he had to contribute three years of probation and community service due to his domestic violence.

So far this 2024-25 season, Hayes has averaged 5.0 points, 4.0 rebounds, 1.0 assists and 0.6 blocks. He has also shot an accurate 77.8% from the field on 14.7 minutes of action in seven games. His best prodction so far was during opening night against the Minnesota Timberwolves where he dropped 10 points, four rebounds and one block.
