Former NBA guard Jeff Teague was on his renowned podcast, Club 520, when he shared his excitement about the acquisition of forward Jonathan Kuminga by the Atlanta Hawks. The former athlete had often been a major supporter of Kuminga’s career and stopped at nothing to share his convictions.
Sharing a clip of the podcast via their X handle, a basketball fan account NBA Courtside @NBA__Courtside had the caption, “Jeff Teague says the Hawks trading for Jonathan Kuminga was a great trade. “Boosie said it best if you don’t want him we will take him. Shoutout to the Hawks getting Kuminga, we got another 6’8 wing that we can use. I like the trade I hated Porzingis on our team. So I’m so glad we got rid of him.”

Jonathan Kuminga’s Saga with the Warriors Ends on a High

The Golden Warriors resisted trading forward Jonathan Kuminga for years, despite contract standoffs and trade requests. Finally, both sides chose to part ways on Wednesday, exchanging the former No. 7 – alongside Buddy Hield – with Atlanta Hawks’ center Kristaps Porzingis
For Kuminga, the move means he finally gets a fresh start in his career – away from head coach Steve Kerr and the Warriors’ locker room. On the Warriors’ end, they got 30-year-old Porzingis with silent hopes he’d suffer fewer injury bouts going forward.
It’s no news that Kuminga had been unhappy with his playing time at Golden State over the last two years. However, the Warriors dragged out his contract negotiations, including one that prevented him from leaving as a free agent last summer.
Although it was apparent that Kuminga would have limited playing time on a veteran-laden team, the franchise’s interests differed from the player’s passion.
Fortunately, now for Kuminga, the chapter is over, as Atlanta welcomes him with wide open arms – and a promise of improved playing time. The Atlanta Hawks have a clear need for a backup forward behind All-Star Jalen Johnson and former top pick Zaccharie Risacher.
And he’ll have 30 games and a potential playoff run before the Hawks can decide on whether they want to trigger his $24.3M option for 2026-27. Hopefully, he’ll meet – or beat – their expectations to secure a decent signing that matches his dream.
But in the meantime, Kuminga has the right to celebrate his current exit from the Warriors. And not just him; fans like Jeff Teague, who have been openly rooting for his success, are joining the party.
