“They Fighting Everybody”: Jimmy Butler, Draymond Green Tandem Seen As ‘The Grimiest Team’ In The NBA By RGIII

In a blockbuster trade deal, Jimmy Butler finally got traded out of the Miami Heat and is now on his way to the Golden State Warriors. Naturally, fans would think of how he could fit into the team and be built around their star player Steph Curry, as this was the strategy that the Bay Area team has been rumored to be working on. However, sports analyst and former NFL quarterback Robert Griffin III pointed out one thing that not a lot of people are realizing—that Jimmy Butler and Draymond Green are now on the same team.

As Jimmy Butler got traded to the Golden State Warriors, that would mean that he would now be teammates and play on the same side not only with Steph Curry but with Draymond Green as well. While former opponents becoming teammates (of former teammates becoming opponents) is no longer a new thing in the NBA, the potential dynamic between Butler and Green is interesting to RGIII.

He said in his post on X: “The Golden State Warriors just traded for Jimmy Butler. Jimmy Butler and Draymond Green on the same team is gonna make Golden State the grimiest team in the NBA.”

    “They [are] fighting everybody.”

Both Jimmy Butler and Draymond Green have a history of aggressiveness, and sometimes even actually fighting within the NBA.

How “Grimy” Can a Jimmy Butler, Draymond Green Duo Be?

During his time with the Chicago Bulls, Jimmy Butler famously criticized coach Fred Hoiberg after a loss in December 2015, saying, “You got to hold everyone accountable; everybody has to do their job.” When he was with the Minnesota Timberwolves, he had an altercation with Karl-Anthony Towns, which led to his trade to the Philadelphia 76ers.

As a Sixer, he had a heated exchange with teammate Joel Embiid during a game. Lastly, with the Miami Heat, Butler had a long-running trade drama with the team’s front office.

Draymond Green is known for his fiery competitiveness and has been ejected from games multiple times. He has a history of physical altercations, including a notable incident in the 2016 NBA Finals where he was suspended for hitting LeBron James in the groin. Green has also been involved in altercations with teammates, such as the infamous practice altercation with Jordan Poole in 2022.

He has since repeatedly apologized for the incident that eventually led to Poole being traded, and has even gone on record calling it one of his “worst mistakes.”

Jimmy Bulter, now 35, is on his 14th season in the NBA.
