The Golden State Warriors are looking for a way to stay competitive after star forward Jimmy Butler suffered a season-ending torn ACL in his right knee. After the six-time All-Star went down with an unfortunate setback, it gave Jonathan Kuminga a chance to be part of the rotation. Back in December, Kuminga didn’t have a role with the Warriors.
He was out of the rotation and did not play for 16 straight games. Amid that, he requested a trade to leave Golden State before he replaced Butler. However, Kuminga suffered a bone bruise in his left knee in his second game back.
Coach Steve Kerr revealed that Kuminga will have a role with the team in his Monday interview on “Willard & Dibs.”

“With Jimmy’s injury, it changes everything for us and for JK. We’ll see what happens with the deadline, but if nothing happens, JK’s right back in the rotation…The door is wide open for him now. I hope we get him back,” Kerr said.

There hasn’t been any update on Jonathan Kuminga’s trade request. He has, however, been connected to a potential deal for Giannis Antetokounmpo with the Milwaukee Bucks.
The Kings have “zero chance” at a Jonathan Kuminga trade
The Sacramento Kings have been the team that has remained interested in acquiring Jonathan Kuminga for the longest time. However, ClutchPoints’ Brett Siegel reported on Monday that the Kings have nothing to give to the Warriors.
“One Warriors source told ClutchPoints that talks with the Kings about Kuminga, both dating back to the offseason and before 2026 began, never went anywhere because Sacramento had ‘nothing worth sacrificing assets for,'” Siegel wrote.
The Kings reportedly offered Malik Monk and a protected first-round pick. Unfortunately for Sacramento, the Warriors aren’t interested in Monk and wanted the protections removed.
