Jonathan Kuminga‘s time with the Golden State Warriors is numbered, as several trade talks about him have emerged. He has also expressed his desire to leave the organization by requesting a deal on Jan. 15. The newest trade rumor about Kuminga has him linked to the Miami Heat. The Eastern Conference team is considered a potential landing spot, in exchange for one-time All-Star Andrew Wiggins.
Kuminga hasn’t had the best season with the Warriors, appearing in only 20 games, averaging 12.1 points, 5.9 rebounds and 2.5 assists. The young forward has also struggled to find a defined role within coach Steve Kerr’s system. The NBA player missed 16 straight games, as he was out of Kerr’s rotation from Dec. 20 to Jan. 19.
He only got his chance when star forward Jimmy Butler suffered a season-ending torn ACL injury.

The Warriors and Heat have begun conversations on a potential trade, according to NBA insider Jake Fischer on Tuesday. This would send Kuminga to Miami, while Wiggins will be reunited with Golden State.
“There’s absolutely some type of framework that’s being discussed and has been discussed between Golden State and Miami to send Jonathan Kuminga to the Heat and bring Andrew Wiggins back to the Warriors,” Fischer said.

So far, there have been no further details about Kuminga potentially getting dealt to the Heat.
The Warriors could retain Jonathan Kuminga past the trade deadline
There’s a chance that Jonathan Kuminga could stay in Golden State, especially after Butler’s devastating injury. His strong showing in the past two games he played, where he had a total of 30 points in 30 minutes, could be a significant reason for the Warriors to keep him.
“Without Butler, he’s back in the mix, scoring 30 points in 30 bench minutes before the injury. There’s an internal conversation that he’d get another crack at minutes post-deadline, if he’s still around. That has yet to be determined, though,” Anthony Slater of ESPN noted.
