The Golden State Warriors are set to have their Media Day on Monday. Jonathan Kuminga, a free agent forward, has regrettably informed the Warriors that he would not be attending. ESPN’s Shams Charania and Anthony Slater confirmed this report on Sunday. There has been no development about a possible resolution to the contract impasse between Kuminga and the Warriors.
Discussions on Kuminga’s future with the team were already underway going into the offseason. He wasn’t given an extension, and there have been talks about him potentially getting traded elsewhere. The Warriors offered him a two-year, $45 million contract initially, which he declined. Charania and Slater recently revealed that Golden State increased their offer to a three-year, $72 million deal, which he also rejected. Both offers have a team option in the final year.
The front office’s other offer for Kuminga was a three-year $54 million deal. But it didn’t include a team option. However, the free agent forward is still unwilling to budge on his stance on having a player option in the final year.

He chose not to attend the forthcoming media day because he is still a restricted free agent with the Warriors.
“Kuminga did not travel to San Francisco this weekend and won’t be in attendance for Monday’s media day, league sources told ESPN. Golden State general manager Mike Dunleavy Jr. made contact with Kuminga’s agent, Aaron Turner, on Sunday, but there’s no momentum toward a Kuminga contract or return prior to the team’s first practice on Tuesday,” Charania and Slater wrote.

The Warriors have made moves ahead of their media day, despite the lack of progress with Jonathan Kuminga’s contract negotiations. The Golden State has signed Al Horford and D’Anthony Melton. Gary Payton II will also return to the team.
Veteran NBA insider gives hot take on Jonathan Kuminga’s stalemate with the Warriors

The Warriors’ situation with Jonathan Kuminga has been their main focus over the past few months. The free agent is seeking a deal that would allow him to earn $30 million per season with a player option in the final year. However, Golden State isn’t willing to make such an offer.
Veteran insider Tim Kawakami said the Warriors are being “bullied” in their current scenario with Kuminga. Kawakami said in the recent episode of “Warriors Plus Minus: A show about the Golden State Warriors”.
“I’m surprised the Warriors have been bullied like this by a player that people around the league think is a backup player,” the insider said. “This is a backup player, and they’re getting bullied by a backup player… But he is [in] that slot. He’s the only way that they’re gonna get significantly better (via trade).”
Jonathan Kuminga wants to secure his future, which is why he’s making sure that he’ll get paid his worth.
