Karl-Anthony Towns Fearlessly Embraces International Identity in All-Star Game Discussion

New York Knicks star Karl-Anthony Towns wants to be part of the 2026 NBA All-Star Game. The big man has put up All-Star caliber stats in his 29-game appearance in the 2025-26 season. KAT is averaging 22.3 points, 11.9 rebounds and 2.9 assists during that stretch, which could be enough for him to be voted by the fans.

The league will introduce a new format to spice things up this season. This was after fans didn’t enjoy the NBA’s four-team format that featured a tournament-style event last season. There will be two US teams and one international team in this year‘s round-robin play.

Towns is looking forward to participating in the annual event. However, he expressed his interest in playing for the international team.

“One, I hope I make it,” Towns said. “And two, I hope I’m on the World Team.”

Towns’ situation is slightly tricky since he’s half American and half Dominican. When he’s competing on the international stage, he suits up for the Dominican Republic. He’s done that since 2012, leading the men’s national basketball team. However, he did not participate in the Rising Stars Challenge with Team World in 2016. Karl-Anthony Towns teamed up with the Americans and played for Team USA as a rookie.

Minnesota Timberwolves fans had a great Christmas gift from the franchise after announcing the return of Kevin Garnett to the organization. Garnett is an icon and has had a rough relationship with the previous ownership. This time, he’s back and will also be honored.

Former Wolves star Karl-Anthony Towns promised to be present when the Wolves decide to retire Garnett’s No. 21 jersey.

“I’ll be there,” Towns said. “Yeah, I’ll be there.”

Garnett served as a mentor to KAT during his rookie season. KG was traded by the Brooklyn Nets the year before Towns was drafted. The 2004 MVP brought his leadership back to Minnesota before he retired from the NBA.

Although they only spent one season together, Garnett left a lasting impact on KAT’s career.
