The WNBA season may be over for Golden State, but Kate Martin already has her next move lined up. The Valkyries guard announced she’s sticking with Unrivaled, the growing 3-on-3 league that tips off again in January.
Unrivaled broke the news on Instagram with a bold post:

“KATE MARTIN IS UNRIVALED [check mark emoji] Presented by @ally Catch her again in Season 2 starting Jan. 5 on TNT, truTV and Max. [television emoji]”

Martin played last season with Laces BC, helping them reach the semifinals. Her team for Season 2 hasn’t been revealed yet, but with two new squads—Hive BC and Breeze BC—joining the mix, she should see more run this time around.
She didn’t hide her excitement, either. Martin jumped into the comments and later reposted the announcement to her own story with a simple:
“Yayyyyyyy.”

Her first year in Golden State showed steady growth. Kate Martin averaged 6.2 points, 2.7 boards, and 1.0 assists—career highs across the board. Coming off the bench, she carved out a role built on energy, defense, and timely shooting. After being picked up in the expansion draft from Las Vegas, she quickly became one of the Valkyries’ more reliable reserves.
Free agency could shake things up across the league, but Martin’s spot is secure. She and Carla Leite are both under contract for next season, giving Golden State a bit of stability heading into Year 2.
“Be grateful for any opportunity”: Kate Martin stays positive amid shaky season with the Valkyries
In the team’s exit interviews following their first-round loss to Minnesota, Kate Martin reflected on a year full of ups and downs.
“It’s just something out of our control,” Martin said, via the San Francisco Chronicle. “There’s a lot of things that are out of our control, so just being where our feet are and controlling what we can is going to be super important. And no matter what, just continuing to work in the offseason and get better and be grateful for any opportunity that comes our way.”
That attitude might come in handy. Two more expansion teams—Portland Fire and Toronto Tempo—are entering the league this offseason, meaning two more drafts are on the horizon. For Martin, the focus is simple: build on what she’s started and stay ready.
