The Los Angeles Clippers have remained competitive, thanks to Kawhi Leonard. While the stars who played for the organization have moved on, Leonard remains faithful in leading the group. In the 2025-26 NBA season, the Clippers had a rough 6-21 start. Fortunately for the team, Leonard led them to return to their winning ways.
Before the All-Star break, the Clippers had a 26-28 record, and are 10th in the Western Conference. From Dec. 20 to Feb. 11, LA only lost seven games. During that stretch, Leonard appeared in 24 games, averaging 30.0 points, 6.9 rebounds, 4.0 assists and 2.2 steals. His availability and outstanding performance helped the team to improve its record.

Before their game against the Denver Nuggets on Thursday, NBA broadcaster Stan Verrett believes that it’s time for people to recognize Kawhi Leonard as an MVP candidate.
“I think it’s time to start talking Kawhi Leonard MVP. It’s time,” Verrett said.

In the latest update on the NBA MVP Ladder, the league has started to acknowledge Leonard’s contributions to the Clippers. He is 10th among all MVPs, ahead of stars Kevin Durant, Tyrese Maxey and Scottie Barnes. All three players have led their team to a better record than the Clippers.
Reggie Miller called Kawhi Leonard an MVP after his December stretch
Kawhi Leonard has struggled to stay healthy since joining the Clippers in 2019. It’s one of the biggest criticisms of his time with his hometown team. He has, however, put a lot of effort into getting fit and playing in 41 games this season.
Former NBA star Reggie Miller had high praise for the two-time champion for his strong play in December, which helped improve the Clippers’ record.
“The question marks over the last several seasons have been the injuries and inability to play in the biggest moment in the playoffs,” Miller said during the All-Star Weekend. “But go back to December, you can make the case that those are MVP-type numbers. It’s a no-brainer that he would be an All-Star game in his building and in his city.”
There are still many games to be played. However, Leonard and the Clippers have improved their circumstances.
