Kelsey Mitchell, Indiana Fever guard, recently got another lease of life when she suffered a life-threatening situation during the final game of the series against the Las Vegas Aces. Mitchell had scored 15 points for the Fever before she exited the game as a result of an injury to her leg. With fans left wondering and worrying about the talented player, Mitchell took to X to explain that she actually suffered from a condition called Rhabdomyolysis.

Rhabdomyolysis happens when the muscles break down and release toxic waste which can hamper other bodily functions. Mitchell’s statement about her condition got the attention of sports medicine doctor Brian Sutterer, who congratulated the medical team for saving the player’s life.

“i suffered from something called Rhabdomyolysis last night. my muscles stopped producing and reached it’s maximum capacity. i went into a sense of numbness/paralyzing feeling with no movement from my lower extremities for up to 5 to 7 seconds. because my muscles stopped producing positive blood to my bloodstream, my body locked up from a physical standpoint and from there fatigue and cramping settled in.” Kelsey Mitchell wrote in her statement on X.

“This is one of the few sports medicine emergencies. Left untreated, it can (and has before) lead to kidney failure and death. Job well done to recognize it and get her prompt treatment (loads of IV fluids to help the kidneys remove the muscle protein that has broken down). Had the team won, she almost certainly would have been out for the finals while letting her kidneys normalize and doing a gradual return to play,” Dr. Brian Sutterer reacted to Mitchell’s tweet.

Kelsey Mitchell has been playing for the Indiana Fever since the 2018 WNBA season. But it looks like she is ready to move to another team as she becomes a free agent this offseason. This season, Mitchell managed a 20.2 point average for the Fever.

Kelsey Mitchell And Fever Lose To Aces

Kelsey Mitchell and the Indiana Fever took a nasty beating at the hands of the Las Vegas Aces in the final game of the series between them. The game ended in overtime with the Aces winning with a 107-98 final score.

The Las Vegas Aces will soon take on the Phoenix Mercury for the finals of this WNBA season. The Phoenix Mercury team is coming to this showdown after beating Napheesa Collier and the Minnesota Lynx.
