Kevin Durant is being a good trooper on the Phoenix Suns this season. Despite the front office whiffing at the trade deadline, the veteran is still playing hard for a Suns team that is in 11th place on the Western Conferences at 27-31.
At 36, Durant is averaging 26.9 points (team high), 6.0 rebounds, and 4.3 assists per game. The two-time NBA Champion didn’t want to be sent to the Golden State Warriors this season because he hopes for a chance to climb back into playoff contention with the Suns.
However, Durant knows the offseason will be different.
The Phoenix Suns plan to make a trade this summer

Per ESPN‘s Brian Windhorst, Durant already knows the Suns intend to trade him this summer. He believes Durant is trying to set himself up for his “last act” in the NBA before he retires.
“They’re going to trade him, and he and he knows that,” Windhorst said of the Suns and Durant. “And like, he’s actually given them, there’s been a couple opportunities where he could have criticized them for trying to trade him. He has not done that. He has been very professional about this, and I expect that to continue throughout the rest of the regular season.
“He’s going to try to win every game he’s out there…So, I think he’s handled this very appropriately. And, look, I know that the Warriors wanted him it didn’t work out. He said ‘I want to be here.’ Warriors are doing great, too. They’re doing just fine. KD is setting himself up for his last act, I think everybody’s intentions are crystal clear.”

Kevin Durant couldn’t lead the Suns to the Finals

Durant has been with the Suns since the Brooklyn Nets traded him on Feb. 9, 2023.
The Suns traded for Durant in the hopes he’d help the team finish the job they couldn’t in the 2021 NBA Finals when they lost to the Milwaukee Bucks in six games. Unfortunately, the Suns never made it past the Western Conference Semifinals with Durant.
They don’t appear to be on their way to playoffs this spring, if they even make the Play-In Tournament.
