NBA star Khris Middleton is opening the newest chapter of his career with the Dallas Mavericks. The 2021 champion did not last with the Washington Wizards, as he was traded on Thursday’s trade deadline. After 34 games for the Wizards this season, the franchise quickly moved on to him as they acquired star big man Anthony Davis.
Middleton’s time in Washington was limited. During the 2024-25 campaign, the team acquired him ahead of the trade deadline with the Milwaukee Bucks for Kyle Kuzma. Not long after, he was moved again.
After the trade, there were talks about Middleton being a potential buyout candidate. With the Mavericks’ 19-24 record, it would be ideal for him to join a playoff team.

However, Middleton confirmed that there are no plans for a potential buyout. Sam Amico of HoopsHype reported on Tuesday about what’s next for the star’s career.
“Nah, not yet,” Middleton said. “We haven’t got to that point. Don’t know that we will. But my focus right now is just playing basketball.”
Since the season isn’t over, there’s still a chance for the Mavericks and Khris Middleton to agree to buy out his contract. The NBA star is a proven winner and could provide help and veteran leadership to any postseason team. This season, the three-time All-Star is averaging 10.3 points, 3.9 rebounds and 3.3 assists.
Khris Middleton had his Mavericks debut on Tuesday
The Mavericks suffered a 120-111 loss to the Phoenix Suns on Tuesday. The newest members of the team, including Khris Middleton, played for the first time. Middleton played 21:37 minutes off the bench with 13 points, five rebounds and two assists on 88.9% from the charity stripe.
Coach Jason Kidd made his plans for Middleton’s involvement with the squad public before the game.
“At some point, there could be a time when he does start. We want to look at him starting with Cooper and Tyus, so different combinations. That could happen as soon as Thursday or we can wait until after the break but we do want to play him,” Kidd said.
