The Sacramento Kings have not been at their best in the 2025-26 NBA season. With a 7-22 record, things aren’t looking great for the Western Conference team. Despite their difficulties this season, Sacramento has surfaced in recent trade rumors.
The team has All-Stars in DeMar DeRozan and Zach LaVine. They also have Domantas Sabonis, who’s been out since Nov. 19 due to a partial meniscus tear in his left knee. However, the squad hasn’t benefited from DeRozan and LaVine’s veteran expertise.
As a result, the team has been searching for a new star. According to recent reports, Sacramento is looking to address its point guard depth. Although the team has veteran guards in Russell Westbrook and Dennis Schroder, the organization wants a “long-term answer” to the lead guard position.
NBA insider Grant Afseth reported that the team has set its eyes on Cleveland Cavaliers star Darius Garland.
“The Sacramento Kings have kept an eye on Garland’s situation as they remain motivated to find a long-term answer at point guard following De’Aaron Fox‘s departure, sources tell DallasHoopsJournal.com. The Minneota Timberwolves are another known team motivated for point guard help to take pressure off of Anthony Edwards. However, it’d be challenging for either team to find a viable path to add Garland,” Afseth wrote.
When it comes to having a long-term plan, Garland could be ideal for Sacramento. He’s in the middle of his five-year, $197.2 million contract with the Cavaliers.
Three teams have shown interest in trading for the Kings’ Domantas Sabonis

This season, Domantas Sabonis has struggled to stay healthy. Three teams have expressed interest in signing the seasoned great while he recovers. The Athletic’s Sam Amick named the Washington Wizards, Phoenix Suns and Chicago Bulls as potential landing spots for Sabonis.
“Teams like Washington, the Phoenix Suns, and Chicago have shown significant interest in the past and are still believed to be on his shortlist of possible suitors, but Sabonis is prepared to remain in a Kings jersey for the foreseeable future,” Amick notes. “He has been out since Nov. 19 with a partial tear of his left meniscus and was scheduled to be re-evaluated within the next week.”
Sacramento hasn’t announced its plans regarding its starting center. He has appeared in 11 games, averaging 17.2 points, 12.3 rebounds and 3.7 assists. Despite the injury, the Kings seem eager to move on from their other stars compared to the star center.
