Reed Sheppard is earning his spot in the Houston Rockets rotation with his 3-point shooting, something he got to show off in front of one of the best shooters in league history. The second year guard went toe-to-toe with Klay Thompson on Saturday and although he had a forgettable game, he still earned the praise of one half of the Splash Brothers.

The four-time champion praised the Rockets guard who did not hit a single three pointer in their encounter where Houston ended up with the close victory.
Thompson chatted with reporters post-game and among the topics was Sheppard and the kid’s wild nickname. He is being called “Cocaine Curry”, something that does not sit well with Klay.
“I think Reed is a great shooter. I don’t think anyone should ever be in the same sentence as Steph though. That’s crazy,” he said via Chancellor Johnson of Sports Illustrated on X, formerly Twitter.

Reed Sheppard’s ugly January
Sheppard turned heads in the first few months but it has been a struggle for him this January. He hasn’t hit multiple threes in the last five games.
He played just 17 minutes against the Mavericks after getting 26 in their dominant win over the Houston Rockets. He shot 3 out of 7 from three but was 5 out of 14 overall.

The first three months, still, are enough for him to get named to the Rising Stars game. He is teammates with Cooper Flagg and Stephen Castle and will be coached by Carmelo Anthony.
Carmelo Anthony, Vince Carter and Tracy McGrady drafted their seven-player teams tonight for the 2026 Castrol Rising Stars, selecting from a pool of 21 NBA rookies and sophomores.
Austin Rivers will serve as honorary coach for the NBA G League team.
