Klay Thompson, coming from the Golden State Warriors, moved to the Dallas Mavericks earlier this year. The move was a result of the former GSW guard desiring a change in his environment, and wanting to feel “more valued.” Later on, former Detroit Pistons shooting guard Quentin Grimes also got traded to the Mavs, in an effort for the Dallas team to bring in someone who would improve their defense and shooting power.
In an interview with Sportskeeda, Grimes touched on the experience of playing with Klay Thompson, as well as the Mavs’ coaching staff helping him by making him watch films of previous games before embarking on new ones.
“The coaches have helped me out a tremendous amount,” Grimes told Sportskeeda. “They’ve given me the confidence to shoot any shot I want, attack closeouts, and just make plays for anybody.”
Grimes also discussed how he is appreciative of having the chance to work with a veteran like Thompson. Klay started his career in 2011 under the Warriors and has stayed with the team until 2024. As per Grimes, Klay’s top assets were his consistency and his mentality.
“Watching Klay has been huge for me,” Grimes shared during the interview. “Whether he’s having a great shooting night or a rough one, he has no conscience—he keeps shooting like it’s going to go in every time. That’s big for shooters like me. Seeing his consistency and his mentality, where every shot is taken with confidence, has helped me focus on impacting the game and trusting my work. The shots will fall because of the effort you put in.”
NBA Rumors Point to GSW looking for Klay Thompson Replacement
The Golden State Warriors roster went through a major shake-up in the last season, particularly after they team let go Klay Thompson and gave him to the Dallas Mavericks. When Thompson left, they brought in smaller names like De’Anthony Milton, Kyle Anderson, and Buddy Hield.
However, rumors had it recently that the Warriors may be looking for a “star” that would be groomed to play well with their star player Steph Curry. This star would be a scorer and would bring added offensive power to the team.
“The debate with the Warriors and teams that look into that situation is for them, are they going to find that externally outside of this roster currently?” ESPN’s Shams Charania, who suggested the rumor, said. “Or will it be in-house with a player like Jonathan Kuminga?”
During his stay with the Warriors, Klay Thompson averaged 19.5 points per game, 3.5 rebounds, and 2.3 assists.
