A shorthanded Dallas Mavericks team suffered their worst injury of the season Monday night. Point guard Kyrie Irving sustained a season-ending torn ACL in the Mavs’ 122-98 loss to the Sacramento Kings in front of 19,711 fans at American Airlines Center.
Irving left the floor after being helped to the free-throw line to shoot a pair of shots. Any realistic hope for the postseason was left in the AAC after the Luka Doncic trade vanished as Irving left the court to seek medical attention.
On Tuesday afternoon, Irving made an announcement on his Instagram regarding his progress since receiving the season-ending diagnosis.

The Dallas Mavericks playoff hopes are in jeopardy

Irving will turn 33 in March. The 2011 No. 1 pick by the Cleveland Cavaliers averaged 24.7 points, 4.8 rebounds, and 4.6 assists this season.
The Mavs were hoping Irving and newcomer Anthony Davis would be able to build chemistry this spring and make a postseason run. Unfortunately, the Mavs could soon be eclipsed by the Phoenix Suns for the final spot in the Play-In Tournament.
