The LA Sparks have broken new ground — literally — with a bold $150 million commitment to build a 55,000-square-foot, state-of-the-art practice facility in El Segundo, slated to open before the 2027 season. This move marks one of the largest investments by a women’s sports team ever for a single franchise.
Magic Johnson, part of the ownership group, made no bones about his excitement:

“I’m excited about the new LA Sparks state-of-the-art practice facility which will be the best in all of the WNBA! I want to congratulate my Sparks partner and new Lakers Owner Mark Walter, as well as my business partner Eric Holoman, for making this dream facility come to fruition!”

That’s high praise. Yet the Sparks don’t lack ambition. The facility will include two regulation WNBA courts, hydrotherapy and spa suites, dedicated nap rooms, wellness and meditation spaces, a circular locker room, weight and training rooms suffused with natural light, and even an indoor-outdoor “player sanctuary.” Eric Holoman said, “We’re building a place where Sparks players can be at their best on and off the court… every corner … was designed with them at the center.”
The LA Sparks name figures prominently in this announcement — and deservedly so. With this facility, they aim to shift from being among the teams with shared or makeshift practice spaces to a franchise with a top-tier, dedicated training and development hub. The timing is strategic, too: as investment in women’s sports accelerates, the Sparks want to lead the arms race, not follow it.
LA Sparks Enter Elite Club of WNBA Teams with Top-Tier Practice Facilities
With their $150 million facility announcement, the LA Sparks will soon join the ranks of WNBA franchises investing heavily in infrastructure. The LA Sparks moniker is making headlines not just for the investment, but for what it signals — a new standard in player care.
Already, teams like the Seattle Storm paved the way. In 2024, they opened their BECU Storm Center for Basketball Performance, a 50,000 sq ft facility featuring two indoor courts, outdoor 3×3 courts, locker rooms, nutrition hubs, and recovery suites. As Storm co-owner Ginny Gilder put it, “It’s built for women, by women, embodying our dedication to leading the way in professional women’s sports.”

The Las Vegas Aces were early adopters of the model. Their $40 million, 64,000 sq ft facility includes high-end features like TVs and mini-computers in player stalls, recovery tubs, and performance spaces. A’ja Wilson once said, “For us to have this … to go from us not having lockers … to now having an HQ of our own … shows where women’s basketball needs to go.”
Further down the pipeline are teams like the Indiana Fever, which plans a $78 million, 108,000 sq ft performance center by 2027. The New York Liberty have also committed to a Greenpoint facility in Brooklyn.
For the LA Sparks, this is more than bricks and mortar — it’s a statement. Naming “LA Sparks” repeatedly in their narrative reinforces the ambition: to be seen not just as a WNBA team, but as a franchise that matches elite NBA and global standards. The facility will help attract talent, retain stars, and perhaps, finally, deliver a championship run.
