Jaxson Hayes’ of the Los Angeles Lakers should be feeling uneasy right now about his NBA career after TMZ released a video of his altercation with his girlfriend back in 2021.
The league immediately re-opened the case which did not lead to disciplining of the player who was still playing for the New Orleans Pelicans back then.

The video spanned five minutes and showed how the 24-year-old was trying to force his then girlfriend Sofia Jamora to stay at the house.
“Stop. Let go of me,” she was repeatedly saying.

Jamora was repeatedly asking her to stop although it was just an audio and they were not visible in the home footage. The clip then switched location to the front porch where they continued their altercation.
The ex-girlfriend said she went outside so the neighbors can hear her. Hayes was unmoved and instead continued his attempts to drag Jamora back home to no avail.
With his plea falling to deaf ears, the 7 footer decided to bump his petite partner with his waist and luckily for her, he did not fall. However, the Lakers player was not done as he was seen in the video spitting at her.
The confrontation ended when the police came over and Hayes was tased to be able to calm down.
The player was initially slapped with 12 charges but was sentenced to three years of probation, 450 hours of community service and a year of weekly domestic violence classes after pleading no contest to resisting arrest. The authorities also ordered him to pay restitution.
Jaxson Hayes’ absence for Lakers and NBA’s history of domestic assault
Hayes will face a bigger problem if ever the league finds him guilty of league violations.
This means more head-scratcher for the Purple and Gold who are already dealing with the loss of back-up center Christian Wood to injury.
The NBA and Adam Silver will be put in the microscope, too, as they are known for being soft when it comes to issues of domestic assault.

The league has been called out many times before letting many players get away for sexual assault or domestic violence, some of them are high profile players.
There is no assurance that Hayes won’t be able to comeback if what happened to Miles Bridges’ case is to be referenced.

The Charlotte Hornets forward was arrested in June 2022 for felony domestic violence for assaulting Mychelle Johnson in front of their children. Johnson claimed, with photos and videos as evidence, Bridges strangled her leading to a brain concussion, closed fracture of nasal bone, contusion of rib, multiple bruises, and a neck muscle strain.
Bridges is back playing again for the Hornets.
