There has been a lot of speculation about LeBron James‘ goal to play alongside his second son, Bryce James. The talk around it started to pick up after he made history with his firstborn, Bronny. Last season, the two became the first-ever father-son duo in NBA history. What’s even more impressive is they played for one team, after the Los Angeles Lakers drafted the former USC guard with the No. 55 pick.

The four-time champion hasn’t shown signs of slowing down and will enter his 23rd season in the league. His youngest son, on the other hand, will start the 2025 season with the Arizona Wildcats as a freshman. There’s a chance that he could do the one-and-done approach and declare for the 2026 NBA draft. If James won’t retire until then, he could play his 24th season.

The Lakers had their Media Day on Monday, and James was asked about his potential team-up with two of his sons. The four-time MVP addressed the speculation with a strong message.

“No, I’m not,” LeBron James said when asked if he’s waiting on Bryce (23:22). “I don’t know what his timeline is. He’s his own young man now. He’s down in Tucson. We’ll see what happens this year, next year, but he has his own timeline. I got my timeline, and I don’t know if they quite match. But we’ll see.”

James could record another historic moment with Bryce if he doesn’t retire following the 2025-26 season. Over the summer, the future Hall of Famer wasn’t offered a contract extension by the Lakers and picked up his $52.6 million player option.

Aside from the prospect of playing with Bryce, fans and analysts are wondering if LeBron James will retire anytime soon. Especially with his contract situation with the Lakers, there are questions that people want answered soon.

James tackled his contract situation on Monday and told the media that he isn’t focused or worried about it.

“I’m not worried about contracts at this point in my career,” King James said. “That doesn’t bother me at all. Super humbled to even have it, have a contract still and be able to play the game that I love still at this part of my career and take full advantage of it.”

The Lakers star also talked about his mindset heading into the new season. According to LeBron James, he asks himself if he still loves the process before the start of every campaign. He hasn’t fallen out of love yet and is still eager to play.

“I think once I kind of fall out of love with the process, then I’ll know for sure. Then, it’d probably be the end for me.”
