LeBron James of the Los Angeles Lakers continues to make history after he was named an All-Star for the 22nd straight time on Sunday. James was not part of the starting lineup, which snapped his streak of being named a starter. But his All-Star streak remains unbroken, after the NBA announced him as part of the Western Conference reserves.
Many thought James’ All-Star streak would end after he was not named as a starter. However, the coaches who voted for the reserves considered his strong play in his 23rd season. Before Sunday, the Lakers star had appeared in 30 games, averaging 21.9 points, 5.8 rebounds and 6.6 assists.

After LA’s 112-100 loss to the New York Knicks, coach JJ Redick was asked about his thoughts on James’ new record of 22-straight All-Star selections.
“The All-NBA streak and the All-Star streak, those two, if you think about a star player — not everyone gets to win MVP,” Redick said.
“You think about a star player, their prime is their All-NBA, All-Star years. He’s basically had a 20-plus-year prime. It’s kind of unheard of… That’s incredible; that’s a testament to the work that he puts in.”

LeBron James comments on his 22nd All-Star selection
When LeBron James missed the first 14 games due to sciatica, many thought his All-Star streak would come to an end. More speculations emerged after James had difficulties finding his rhythm when he returned to the team. Fortunately for the four-time champion, coaches considered his impressive outing.
After the loss against the Knicks, James was asked if he thought his All-Star streak would end this season.
“I’mma be honest, I really didn’t think about it,” James said. “It wasn’t a goal of mine to come into the season, miss the first 14 games and say, ‘Okay, I need to be an All-Star.’ I just wanted to get back to playing the game at a high level, I knew I was capable of.”
