LeBron James Talks Retirement Amid Bryce, Bronny Budding Careers
LeBron James acknowledged at Lakers media day that his NBA career is approaching its end, saying retirement is “a lot sooner than later” as he begins his 23rd season while remaining motivated to compete for another championship.

James described feeling invigorated about the upcoming season and grateful for the ability to still perform at a high level despite the realities of aging, noting the rarity of players competing effectively at his age.
“However the journey plays out this year, I’m super-invested, because I don’t know when the end is. I know it’s a lot sooner than later,” James said. “It’s pretty cool to know how many miles I’ve got and still be able to play at a high level. For me, age is kind of just a number, but it is reality, too.”
The Lakers veteran also reflected on the possibility of sharing the court with his sons, expressing appreciation for playing alongside his oldest son Bronny, while recognizing that timelines for his younger son Bryce, are separate and uncertain.
“You look at the history of the game, there’s not been many guys at my age, especially going into year 23, that have been able to play at a level like that,” he added. “I just try not to take it for granted and just try to give the game as much as I can, inspire whoever I can.”

Throughout his career so far, LeBron James has been a four-time NBA Champion, four-time MVP, and four-time Finals MVP.
