LeBron James has openly conveyed how his journey from public housing in Akron to stardom in the NBA comes from his mother’s steadfast love and sacrifice, and how she has raised him diligently all by herself.

He also told stories of her raising him alone, and creatively instilling early on the value of discipline on and off the court that prepared him on his career path as one of the most successful players in the history of the NBA.

LeBron James Downplays Challenges That Come With Age

As LeBron James prepares to tip off his 23rd NBA season, he is expected to set a new all-time benchmark for longevity in the league. Despite the amount of time he has played competitively and the challenges and limitations that come with his age, the Lakers veteran downplayed any comments about his longevity.

In a recent interview with CGTN Sports Scene, the four-time MVP dismissed any notion that his age or accumulated “mileage” will slow him down.

“Age doesn’t matter,” James said. “Age is just a number. I definitely feel energetic any time I’m out there on the floor, trying to give everything I got to my teammates, and just go out there and win.”

Recently, during this offseason, rumors spread alleging that either LeBron may be up for a trade, while some purported that he has considered retiring and not pursuing the 2025 season.

According to Lakers insiders, James’s development next to new addition Luka Doncic could help extend his career with the franchise. James has one contract season left, and while the future is uncertain for LeBron James in 2025–26 and beyond, his recent pledge indicates an intention to continue to surpass standards.

During the 2024 season, LeBron James averaged 24.4 points on 51.3-percent shooting, along with 8.2 assists and 7.8 rebounds per game.
