Geno Auriemma, head coach of the UConn Huskies, got a rare visit from Joe Mazzulla, head coach of the NBA’s Boston Celtics. Auriemma and the Huskies are working hard to prepare for the March Madness season, which is right around the corner.

The UConn women’s basketball program’s official Instagram handle shared pics of Auriemma and Mazzulla deep in conversation at Gampel Pavilion. Not only Auriemma, but Mazzulla too is prepping hard in this NBA season. As of now, the Boston Celtics are no. 2 in the Eastern Conference with 50 wins and 19 defeats on the season. The Cleveland Cavaliers, meanwhile, are at the top of the table with a current 56-13 record.

“Hey Coach 👋”  UConn Women’s basketball posted on Instagram showing Geno Auriemma and Joe Mazzulla chatting it up with each other.

Geno Auriemma has not shown any signs of slowing down and is still coaching beautifully at 70 years. Auriemma has been coaching the UConn Huskies since 1985 and has produced dozens of greats through his training. As a coach, he has taken his team to the NCAA Championships a whopping 11 times and was named Naismith Coach of the Year eight times.

Meanwhile, Joe Mazzulla started out his coaching career in 2011 as an assistant coach for Glenville State. He landed his first NBA coaching gig with the Boston Celtics as an assistant in 2019. After working with the team as an interim head coach in the 2022 NBA season, Mazzulla was promoted to head coach and won the championship last year.

While the UConn Huskies finished their regular season at the top of the Big East with an 18-0 conference score and 31-3 overall, the Arkansas State Red Wolves finished second in the Sun Belt with a 15-3 conference score and 21-10 overall.

The UConn Huskies are coming to this tournament after an excellent Big East run. UConn managed to win against the St. John’s Red Storm 71-40, against the Villanova Wildcats 82-54 and the Creighton Bluejays 70-50. The team will be ecstatic to use their talented players like Paige Bueckers, Sarah Strong and Azzi Fudd in this year’s March Madness.
