Jewell Loyd and former college athlete Natalija Marshall made their relationship public this year. This attracted attention not only because of Loyd’s prominence with the Las Vegas Aces but also because of Marshall’s status as an elite player at the University of Miami and a former transfer from Notre Dame. It increased even more when they began attending games together and sharing their relationship on social media. It became a media narrative that equated their relationship personally and in the growing visibility of acceptance within high-profile women’s basketball athletes.

Their relationship can be explained by the networks they shared during their time in the overlap of college and pro. Marshall was in college programs while Loyd was at least partially in those same professional and collegiate environments that included relationships and activities that were connected to Loyd. Marshall also had strong ties to Loyd’s primary social networks.

Since going public, Loyd and Marshall have navigated the heightened scrutiny that follows relationships involving elite athletes, balancing private life with Loyd’s career demands and the Aces’ playoff pushes.

A’ja Wilson Gives Honest Opinion About Playing With Jewell Loyd

In a previous interview, Las Vegas Aces star and four-time MVP A’ja Wilson gave her honest take on having the chance to play alongside Jewel, whom she once played against during the 2020 WNBA Finals.

“I had a front row seat to a sweep in the bubble with Jewel (Loyd) with Gold Kobes on,” Wilson recalled. “I’m grateful that she’s now with us for sure. I’m glad she got her A’Ones now. To be able to play alongside Jewel and to see her work, it is truly magical. Her record in the Finals, it shows the work that she’s put in.”

Loyd, who so far has an impressive Finals appearance record of undefeated 10-0, also admitted to coming into the Aces roster with her role clear on her mind. Earlier this year, she highlighted her desire to help her team throughout.

“The confidence has always been there. I just get annoyed missing shots, because I know I want to help my team,” Loyd said back in June. “You want to see the ball go into the basket. My preparation has been the same. My teammates still believe in me. My coach, fans, everyone is encouraging me all the way through.”
