Malik Beasley, guard for the Detroit Pistons, is being investigated by federal authorities. There’s suspicion that he may have placed bets on NBA games—possibly even on himself.

This all started when a sportsbook flagged strange betting activity before a game on January 31 vs. the Blazers. Odds for Beasley to record under 2.5 rebounds shifted big-time before tipoff. That got attention. Officials took notice. Now it’s a full-blown federal look.

As of now, no charges. The U.S. Attorney’s Office in the Eastern District of New York is running the investigation. Beasley’s attorney, Steve Haney, says he’s cooperating fully.

“He hasn’t been charged with anything,” Haney said. “He’s entitled to due process.”

You wouldn’t know anything was going on by looking at Beasley’s socials. Just recently, he shared a gym video—music up, getting shots up, nothing in the caption. Just business. No stress showing.

Last season, Beasley averaged 16.3 points, 2.6 rebounds, and 1.7 assists per game while shooting 41.6% from three-point range and 43% overall in 82 games.

Pistons Put Malik Beasley Contract Talks on Hold

Before the investigation hit the news, Malik Beasley and the Pistons were reportedly close to a new deal—three years, $42 million. That’s now on ice, per ESPN’s Shams Charania.

Last season, Beasley gave the Pistons solid minutes. Almost 12 points a game, over 40% from deep. More than the numbers, he gave them some leadership—a veteran in a young room.

Now though? His situation is murky.

People can’t help but bring up Jontay Porter. The league banned him for life back in April for betting-related violations. Beasley’s not in that boat yet—but when names start getting mentioned together, you know it’s serious.

While the Pistons are expected to bring Malik along with Tim Hardaway Jr., recent developments on Beasley may have just put a stop to it. Because of this, the Pistons may opt to let Beasley go into free agency.

For now, everything’s stuck. His contract. His role. Maybe even his whole career.
