It’s official. Paul George has decided to opt out of the final year of his current contract with the Los Angeles Clippers in order to enter free agency. This does not necessarily mean that he’s surely leaving the Clippers, though, as the nine-time All-Star is still expected to meet with LA to negotiate a new deal.
According to NBA insider Shams Charania of The Athletic, however, George will also be meeting with the Philadelphia 76ers and the Orlando Magic.
Los Angeles Clippers News: Paul George Will Speak With 76ers, Magic
Shams appears to have narrowed down George’s next team to three sides. According to the renowned NBA insider, the 6-foot-8 small forward will start taking meetings as soon as free agency opens on Sunday night:
“Paul George plans to speak with the Clippers, Philadelphia 76ers and Orlando Magic starting late Sunday night pacific time after free agency opens, sources tell @TheAthletic @Stadium,” Charania reported.
At this point, the Clippers seem to be at a disadvantage. Previous reports indicate that LA is unwilling to offer George a max deal, which is something that could very much be on the table with the Sixers and/or the Magic.
It remains to be seen if the Clippers will change their stance on this matter now that George has officially opted out of his deal.
