It is no secret that it hasn’t been smooth sailing for Los Angeles Lakers rookie Bronny James in the pros. That said, he continues to take in as much learning as he can before the start of the 2024-25 NBA regular season. The eldest son of four-time NBA Most Valuable Player LeBron James, Bronny is part of the Lakers’ preseason squad that also played against the Golden State Warriors Tuesday night in Las Vegas.
Before the Warriors game, Bronny admitted that his numbers in the preseason were not particularly great.
“For me just getting comfortable going out there and getting reps is the most important thing,” Bronny said, per Dave McMenamin of ESPN.
“Just to grow my confidence and be more comfortable while I’m out there playing. Because I feel good. I feel good, but the numbers could be better, but I just got to get my confidence up. Is there a difference in your confidence in practice situations and games that just maybe hasn’t translated yet? Yeah, for sure. It’s a totally different game, especially out in arenas like this with the atmosphere and stuff like that. But I’m just trying to get myself comfortable.”

Through the Lakers’ first three games in the preseason, Bronny scored just two points on a 1-for-11 shooting from the field with just three rebounds and an assist. He had also turned the ball over five times in that stretch. In the 111-97 loss to the Warriors, Bronny scored just two points on 1-for-5 shooting in the nine minutes he spent on the floor.
Will Bronny James make it to the Los Angeles Lakers’ Opening Day Roster?

It remains to be seen whether Bronny will be on the Lakers’ roster when Los Angeles kicks off its 2024-25 campaign with a game against the Minnesota Timberwolves at home on Oct. 22. His preseason numbers say that he could use some more polishing in the G League, but there’s also the marketability aspect of his mere presence on the Lakers’ lineup. In any case, it’s going to be interesting to monitor what the Lakers’ approach will be with the former USC Trojans guard.
