Los Angeles Lakers guard Dalton Knecht has made waves this season for being the team’s most impactful rookie. The former Tennessee star averages 11.2 points, 2.8 rebounds, and 1.1 assists on 50/44/89 shooting splits after his first 17 NBA games.
Dalton Knecht already has his share of scoring outbursts. And because of his recent stretch of superb play, former Minnesota Timberwolves and Boston Celtics forward Kevin Garnett believes that the 23-year-old should be the Los Angeles Lakers’ No. 3 option behind Anthony Davis and LeBron James.
“Ain’t no rookie doing what he (Dalton Knecht) doing… West side Knecht. Lord the ROY might be a one-man race right now real shyt my dog West side Knecht been DOING it 💯,” Garnett posted on his X (formerly known as Twitter). “He look fearless as a rookie, Lord I think he’s the number 3 for the Lakers and a big reason for their turnaround 💪🏿 WEST SIDE KNECHT!”
Knecht recently had a 37-point explosion against the Utah Jazz, draining nine three-pointers in the 124-118 victory. He ranks third among all rookies in points per game and second in three-pointers made per game.
Dalton Knecht has cooled off for a bit with the Los Angeles Lakers
Dalton Knecht’s production has gone down since JJ Redick decided to start the returning Rui Hachimura instead of him.
After scoring 17 points against the Orlando Magic, Knecht only had 16 points combined against the Denver Nuggets and the Phoenix Suns.
Knecht’s downturn in form may have played a role in the Los Angeles Lakers’ recent skid, as they’re on a three-game losing streak.
