There are reports that say the Los Angeles Lakers are looking to sign another player to boost the depth of their frontcourt roster. The franchise kept most of their roster from last season, only adding one player to the team over the summer.
The Los Angeles Lakers’ frontcourt this season is mostly similar to what they had in the previous season, but they’re starting to look for more options. ESPN’ Shams Charania shared some information that say the team is looking into the free-agent market for a reliable big man.
In his “NBA Today” debut on Thursday, Charania detailed why the franchise has begun scouting for players, particularly centers.

“Sources tell me the Lakers have been exploring, potentially adding a big man, a center to their roster,” Charania said. “Not sure exactly when that will take place. But they have started looking into the marketplace. Christian Wood remains sidelined, he’s got a knee issue. He had surgery recently, they’re waiting for him to be back.

“Christian Koloko, they signed him to a two-way contract before training camp. He was expected to play a potential reserve role on this roster… the Lakers doctors have felt confident that he will be cleared by the league’s fitness to play panel due [to] his blood clot issue. But that is still an ongoing process.”
Christian Wood underwent an arthroscopic knee surgery before the offseason, beginning his rehabilitation. He had to undergo the same procedure in early September for the same knee.
Meanwhile, they signed Christian Koloko in the hope that he can fill the big-man role in the team, but the league has yet to green-light his eligibility to play. He was unable to play in the entirety of last season due to a blood clot issue.

Los Angeles Lakers coach wants Anthony Davis to play power forward
Anthony Davis has been the Los Angeles Lakers’ center since the 2021-22 NBA season, so it has been a while since he played the power forward position. However, the transition hasn’t exactly worked out in favor of the team, and that is why rookie head coach JJ Redick is looking to revert Davis back to his natural playing position.
Coach Redick talked about his plans with AD on Thursday. “It’s definitely something we could use in our rotation. What I really like is having AD at the four and him being able to be in that switching group while still having some size at the five with Jaxson. That part of it I like a lot,” he said.
Davis mostly played the power forward position in the Los Angeles Lakers’ historic 2020 playoff run. Redick’s plan to switch him back from being the team’s center could be what the team needs to reassert their dominance in the league.
