Just a few seasons ago, Lonnie Walker IV was lighting it up with the LeBron James and the Los Angeles Lakers. Now, the Brooklyn Nets wing is finding a new home in free agency while firing back at critics who doubted him.
In high school, Walker was a standout player, earning McDonald’s All-American honors and being named Mr. Pennsylvania Basketball. He played college basketball for the Miami Hurricanes, where he was named to the ACC All-Freshman Team after averaging 11.5 points per game.
After his successful collegiate career, Walker was selected by the San Antonio Spurs with the 18th overall pick in the 2018 NBA Draft. He spent four seasons with the Spurs, during which he dealt with some injuries but also showed glimpses of his potential as a scoring guard. In 2022, Walker signed with the Lakers, where he played for one season.
In 2023, Walker joined a Brooklyn Nets with forward Mikal Bridges and big man Nicolas Claxton in it. Throughout his professional career, Walker has demonstrated his versatility as a player, able to play both small forward and shooting guard positions. However, the team didn’t really perform well with their regular season record of 32 wins and 50 losses.
Former Los Angeles Lakers Wing Lonnie Walker IV Blasts Doubting Critics on Social Media
Just recently, Walker’s one-year $2 million contract with the Nets just ended. At the same time, the former Lakers wing went on social media to go off on his doubted, as seen in a tweet he shared on his official X account.
“I ain’t even reach my prime yet 😅 yall gonna see soon. The apology better be just as loud as the disrespect,” Walker tweeted.
In his one-year run with the Lakers during the 2022-23 season, Walker averaged 11.7 points on 36 percent shooting from deep, 1.9 rebounds, and 1.1 assists. Those numbers slightly dipped during his time in Brooklyn, especially after a hamstring injury late last year as the former Spurs wing posted 9.7 points, 2.2 rebounds, and 1.3 assists during the previous season.
It remains to be seen where Walker will end up soon or if he’ll stay with the Nets. In any case, he’s raring to go on the court to prove there’s still a lot of gas left in his tank.
