The JJ Redick era for the Los Angeles Lakers has already begun, with the former Duke Blue Devils star getting officially introduced as the newest head coach of the Purple & Gold franchise.

Redick’s takeover of the coaching job in LA could also mean a much better Anthony Davis than the version that played under Darvin Ham. Redick said that he’s started communicating with Davis about plans for the 2024-25 NBA campaign.
JJ Redick says he’s already been in touch with Anthony Davis about ideas for next season. One he shared with us is “the idea of him as a hub” — he didn’t say his name, but think of how Denver runs things through Nikola Jokic
There is no doubt that Davis is still one of the best players in the NBA. Last season, he racked up averages of 24.7 points, 12.6 rebounds, and 3.5 assists per game while shooting 55.6 percent from the field and posting a 62.1 true shooting percentage.

Lakers general manager Rob Pelinka said that Davis “was very involved” in the hiring of Redick (h/t CBS Sports), and that can easily be interpreted as a sign of how much he believes Redick could help his performance on the court and eventual takeover as the undisputed alpha in Los Angeles. LeBron James is still with the team, but he’s not going to be in LA – or the NBA for that matter – for several more years, given the fact that he’s about to turn 40 in December.
