Former Los Angeles Lakers forward Robert Horry believes that JJ Redick’s head coaching job is not safe, following the appointment of new team owner and chairman Mark Walter, who is known to be a no-nonsense guy.
Horry added that the Los Angeles Lakers might be better off with a coach who has a stricter approach with his players, which doesn’t exactly fit Redick’s profile. At the time of writing, the team recently dropped to fifth in the West with a 33-21 record heading into the All-Star break.
“Bye-bye,” Horry said of Redick’s job security if general manager Rob Pelinka gets fired on his podcast. “I think the ownership is going to want to come in and bring their own everything. You know, unless JJ does something phenomenal and gets to the Western Conference Finals, that’s the only way I see him sticking around.”
“I think you have to bring in someone who isn’t trying to be a coach and a friend. I think you need to come in and coach and be a mentor, not a friend. I think someone like Luka needs strong love because Luka has a tendency to do his own thing, and you can’t just do your own thing,” he added.

Los Angeles Lakers News: Luka Doncic offers positive outlook on the team ahead of the second half of the season
Luka Doncic was recently asked about the Los Angeles Lakers’ chances of making a deep postseason run this campaign, and the Slovenian guard said he is confident, especially if they have a healthier squad.
“First of all, just staying together,” Doncic said on SportsCenter. “Obviously, we have three main ball-handlers: me, (Austin Reaves), and (LeBron James). I think we can be a very, very dangerous team. We haven’t had much time to play together since everyone had been injured a little bit, but I’m excited after All-Star. We all get to play together.”
To Doncic’s point, he, Austin Reaves, and LeBron James have played only 10 games together this season. So, to be 12 games above the .500 mark and fifth in the Western Conference despite their stars missing several games is commendable for the Los Angeles Lakers.
