There is likely more than one reason as to why the Los Angeles Lakers have yet to land Jerami Grant. The Portland Trail Blazers star is currently the biggest name that is being linked to a potential blockbuster trade deal to LA, which for one reason or another, hasn’t seemed to pick up much steam of late.
One major stumbling block in a potential agreement between the two sides is Portland’s asking price for the 6-foot-7 forward.
Los Angeles Lakers News: Blazers Want Major Haul for Jerami Grant

It comes as no surprise that the Blazers are demanding a massive haul for arguably the best player on their roster. As it turns out, this price could be something the Lakers are unable to meet.
According to NBA insider Brett Siegel of ClutchPoints, Portland’s asking price for Grant might just be too steep for LA.
“The Blazers have been asking for multiple first-round picks in preliminary talks for Grant, sources said,” Siegel wrote.
The report also went on to indicate that as of this time, the Lakers “can only offer picks in 2029 and 2031, as well as swaps in 2026, 2028, and 2030, in any trade talks right now.”

It appears that Grant’s price is the major stumbling block for the Lakers at the moment. Given their lack of trade assets available, it seems that LA’s front office will need to get creative in terms of somehow producing said assets.
Don’t be surprised if his deal ends up involving a couple more teams just so the Lakers are able to get their man.
