The Los Angeles Lakers have been successful this season, thanks to the work that Luka Doncic has displayed. However, Doncic isn’t alone and has had a lot of help from his backcourt mate, Austin Reaves. Against the New Orleans Pelicans on Sunday, the two stars led the Lakers to a 133-121 win. The excitement surrounding Doncic and Reaves has begun to grow after yet another season-long triumph.

While there’s been recognition from fans and experts, Doncic wants to keep things simple. The noise may divert him and the other team members. It’s something they couldn’t afford as they are now 15-4 in the 2025-26 NBA season, the second-best team in the Western Conference.

Against the Pelicans, Doncic had 34 points. 12 rebounds and seven assists. Reaves added 33 points, five rebounds and eight assists. Their dynamic on the court has been a significant factor in the Lakers’ seven-game winning streak.

Following the win, Luka Doncic was asked about what makes him and Reaves a dynamic backcourt.

“I think we’re just good basketball players,” Doncic said. “I don’t know what made us special, but we’re just good basketball players.”

"Just keep doing what we're doing."

The Lakers’ backcourt has played an important role in the team’s success. LeBron James has only appeared in four games, but the team hasn’t been concerned because of Doncic and Reaves’ excellent play.

On Monday, LA will face the Phoenix Suns to complete their back-to-back. Following that will be a three-game road trip against the Toronto Raptors, Boston Celtics and Philadelphia 76ers.

This season, the Lakers have been playing at a higher level. Luka Doncic stated following the victory over New Orleans that LA’s success thus far has been mostly due to consistency.

“We only won by 12, but those games are kind of hard. The lesson is to keep doing what we are doing. It is seven in a row, so keep doing what we are doing,” the Slovenian star said. “I think that’s a great record. So, keep doing the same things.”

The Lakers’ turnover numbers were also highlighted. They had a season-low eight turnovers, showing that they can protect the ball well. Doncic was responsible for two turnovers, but Austin Reaves accounted for five.

“That probably starts with me. I got to take care of the ball better. In some games, we have a lot of turnovers. Today was a lot better.”

The Lakers have been successful, even though they haven’t had a healthy star trio.
