Luka Doncic Gets 100% Honest About Los Angeles Lakers’ Playoff Chances

Whether Luka Doncic likes it or not, Los Angeles Lakers fans immediately expect him to lead the team alongside long-time Laker LeBron James to the NBA Finals and add another banner to the already-crowded rafters of the Crypto.com Arena.

It’s fair for the Purple and Gold faithful to have such expectations out of their star man, though. His epic performances under the brightest lights have always been phenomenal, and his 45-point outing against the Dallas Mavericks at his old stomping grounds gives fans a preview of what he can do for them in the postseason.

While the Lakers are one of the most stacked teams in the NBA, their hopes of making the Finals for the first time in five years is far from certain. Multiple great teams are vying for the chance to win the Larry O’Brien trophy out west, and their path to playing June basketball will have them face multiple superstars.

However, Doncic let his ultra-competitive personality shine after a solid win against a difficult conference rival.

Luka Doncic believes the Los Angeles Lakers are in a great spot to win the 2025 NBA Finals

The media asked Doncic and others on the Lakers roster about the team’s chances of making it to the Finals despite being stacked against some of the best teams in the NBA.

While he understands that no postseason game is a walk in the park, he thinks that the team Rob Pelinka assembled throughout the season has what it takes to make it to the Finals.

When Austin Reaves shared his belief that his team could win the franchise’s 19th championship banner, Luka agreed with his sentiment.

“That’s our only goal,” Doncic told ESPN’s Dave McMenamin and other reporters present in the Lakers’ 109-140 domination over the Houston Rockets. “I think we have the team to do it.”

He also said that he’s more than excited to play his first playoff series for the Lakers and expect an entertaining postseason for him and the  rest of the Purple and Gold:

“The good part of the season is coming, so you got to stay ready, got to stay locked in, but for sure, the rest is going to be great for me,” Doncic said.

He highlighted that the Lakers have more than just him and LeBron, as Reaves and the rest of the roster responded to JJ Redick’s leadership at the right time of the season.

Doncic had a grand time against the Rockets, finishing the game with 39 points, eight boards, seven assists, and one steal.
