Many thought Luka Doncic would spend his entire career with the Dallas Mavericks. It was a perfect fit: his incredible playmaking and scoring helped the Mavs make the 2024 NBA Finals despite his injury and fitness issues.
However, Nico Harrison decided to pull off the most shocking trade of the decade—perhaps even in NBA history—when he sent Luka Doncic, Maxi Kleber, and Markieff Morris to the Lakers for Anthony Davis, Max Christie, and a future first-round pick.

While people in and around the league are still trying to make sense of the trade, the man himself is trying to move forward with his career. He penned a sweet and painful message to the Dallas faithful, officially ending his tenure as a Maverick.

“Seven years ago, I came here as a teenager to pursue my dream of playing basketball at a high level,” Doncic’s letter began. “I thought I’d spend my career here and I wanted so bad to give you a championship.”
“The love and support you all have given me is more than I could have ever dreamed of. For a young kid in Slovenia coming to the U.S. for the first time, you made North Texas feel like home.”
“As I start the next part of my basketball journey, I am leaving a city that will always feel like a home away from home.”
“Dallas is a special place, and Mavs fans are special fans,” he finished.

Lakers fans can expect more of the same from their new star guard, but the man himself will continue to hold Mavs fans in a special place in his heart.
