A lot of people have said their piece about the shocking trade that brought Luka Doncic out of the Dallas Mavericks, and NBA analyst Chris “Mad Dog” Russo is not one to miss the opportunity, as he expressed his analysis on the trade that shook everyone this week.
In an appearance on “First Take,” Russo saw the Mavs-Lakers trade as a preparation for the Lakers to groom a new superstar as LeBron James is already in the final years of his career.
“Any time you can get this type of player who is six years or five-and-a-half years younger than Anthony Davis, LA which is full of stars, that sells in that market, he can replace LeBron down the road when LeBron retires in a year or two,” Russo said about the Doncic-Davis trade. “He’s not perfect because you got to wonder a little bit about the conditioning issues—but this is a great trade for the Lakers.”
“Most of the time, if you look at the history of the NBA, when the team acquires the great player—think Lakers with Kareem—most of the times the team that acquires the great player wins out on the deal,” Russo added, declaring the Lakers as the winners of the trade.

In a post on his X account, Luka Doncic expressed his gratitude for the opportunity to start this new chapter of his career.
“Grateful for this amazing opportunity,” he said in his post. “Basketball means everything to me, and no matter where I play the game, I’ll do so with the same joy, passion, and goal—to win championships.”
Luka Doncic Releases Heartfelt Statement After Trade: “I Thought I’d Spend My Career Here”
Former Mav and now Laker Luka Doncic broke his silence following the news of his trade that broke the internet and the hearts of fans. In his piece, Luka looked back on his dream of bringing a championship to Dallas, which would not happen anymore.

“I thought I’d spend my career here and I wanted so badly to bring you a championship,” Doncic said in the statement posted on social media. “The love and support you all have given me is more than I could have ever dreamed of. For a young kid from Slovenia coming to the U.S. for the first time, you made North Texas feel like home.”
Luka Doncic was the third overall pick for the 2018 NBA Draft. He was drafted by the Atlanta Hawks and was then immediately traded to the Dallas Mavericks as the Mavs acquired the draft rights from Atlanta.
