Malilk Beasley could have gotten a $42 million deal with the Detroit Pistons but then things took a wrong turn shortly after the end of the 2024-25 season when he got accused of violating the league’s gambling rules.

He was crucial in Pistons return to postseason with his three-point shooting as he finished with second most threes in a single season next to Anthony Edwards. The team had to release him shortly after the exposè about his gambling issue and now, he’s a free agent.
The investigation is still ongoing although it is mostly about conduct as the league tries to determine if he did violate some of their rules. There’s a chance he could play according to his lawyer Steve Haney. He also revealed that Beasley is looking to return to the Pistons.
“I do know that Malik, if there’s a pathway, would like to look at being considered to play for Detroit again next season,” said Haney whose clients library include Magic Johnson and Emoni Bates.

“I’m not his agent, though, so I don’t know if there’s still interest there, I don’t know if there’s still money there, what the mutual level of interest there is in him returning to Detroit. I know that he’s got a lot of love for Detroit and would like to, if possible, look at maybe coming back.”
Does Malik Beasley still have a place with Detroit Pistons
Beasley has love for Pistons. He said in April that he wants to continue playing there because of his personal connection with the city and his mom’s roots.
“It’s definitely a place I want to be,” Beasley said.
“To be here, my mom’s hometown, I grew up here a lot in the summertime. To be able to perform in front of this city is huge and I’m glad I got a chance to do that.”

Pistons had their hands tied due to his gambling case and so, they had to sign new players. Most notable among them is Caris LeVert who plays the same position as him. He is also taller and known for defense.
Other players who are expected to take his place are Duncan Robinson who signed with them after eight years with the Miami Het for a $48 million contract spanning three years.
In case a Detroit return gets shut down, Beasley will still find himself a new team as Minnesota Timberwolves, New York Knicks, and Cleveland Cavaliers have reportedly showed interest.
