Businessman and TV personality Mark Cuban recently claimed that he could run for the US presidential elections and “win it running away.” The former majority owner of the Dallas Mavericks claimed he could find success in the presidential race with NBA legend Charles Barkley as his running mate.
An outspoken critic of president-elect Donald Trump, Cuban believes someone like Charles Barkley, who can talk to all kinds of people, is what the country needs as its leader.
Cuban recently appeared on TNT’s “The Steam Room” hosted by Barkley and Ernie Johnson. Johnson asked Cuban if he and “the Chuckster” would win if they ran in the presidential elections.
Barkley interjected before Cuban could answer, saying, “We’d win,” to which the former “Shark Tank” star agreed. “Yes, absolutely. Yes, we would win running away,” said Cuban.
Mark Cuban entered the NBA by purchasing the Mavericks over two decades ago. He invested $285 million and became a hands-on character for the team, setting an example for other team owners to follow. He made an extra effort to attract unsigned free agents to join his team. While he no longer has any significant power within the franchise, he still maintains pretty close relationships with many NBA figures, including Barkley.
Mark Cuban speaks about selling his shares in the Mavericks
In late 2023, Mark Cuban decided to sell his majority stakes in the Dallas Mavericks, earning a whopping $3.5 billion from the Aldenson family. The Aldensons are known business moguls in the casino industry.
Being such a hands-on owner of the team, he had to adjust to living without all the perks he used to enjoy. He talked with Marc Stein of “The Stein Line,” explaining why he doesn’t sit behind the Mavericks’ bench like he used to.
“The NBA got really, really, really petty and said that I can’t sit behind the bench anymore,” Cuban said. “The only time I feel any regret is when the NBA pisses me off. Maybe it would be different if we were losing and things weren’t going well, but things are going well. It’s nothing specific to the Mavs. I can’t go into NBA meetings anymore and give them [redacted] for being petty.”
Regardless, while he would have done things differently if he were still in charge, Mark Cuban still likes the path the team is currently taking.
“I’m not there making day-to-day decisions,” the billion-dollar mogul continued. “That’s all Nico [Harrison, the Mavericks’ General Manager]. That’s just the way it’s evolved. Honestly, is it exactly the way I expected it to be? No. But we’re winning, and things are going well. I’m fine with it.”
