Dallas Mavericks minority owner Mark Cuban shared the moment he had with Mavs owner Patrick Dumont after the franchise got the No.1 pick for the 2025 NBA Draft.

A report by The Dallas Morning News detailed how Mavs minority owner Mark Cuban and Patrick Dumont handled the news of the Mavs winning the No. 1 pick in the recent NBA Draft lottery.

“First call was to Patrick to congratulate him and scream like we were two teenagers at a Taylor Swift concert,” Cuban told the outlet. “Then my son and I were bouncing around like we were watching a 3-point game-winner in slow motion. When they called the Spurs, we went nuts.”

Nico Harrison, who got most of the backlash following the Luka Doncic trade, was also caught on video celebrating the lottery win. In a video, Harrison can be seen jumping and screaming in celebration at the Mavs’ base when their lottery win was announced.

The Dallas Mavericks endured a challenging 2025 season, marked by controversial roster moves, injuries, and inconsistent performances. The biggest shock came when the team traded Luka Doncic to the Los Angeles Lakers, a move that sparked outrage among fans and analysts alike.

While the acquisition of Anthony Davis was meant to keep the Mavericks competitive, the team struggled to find cohesion, finishing the season 39-43 and missing the playoffs. Adding to their woes, Kyrie Irving suffered a torn ACL, sidelining him for most of the season and leaving the Mavericks without a reliable offensive leader.

Despite the challenges, the Mavericks received unexpected good news when they won the 2025 NBA Draft Lottery, securing the No. 1 overall pick despite having only a 1.8% chance of landing it. The lottery victory gives Dallas the opportunity to draft Cooper Flagg, a highly touted prospect who could become the new face of the franchise.

Mark Cuban Clears His Name Away From The Luka Doncic Trade

Mark Cuban made it clear that he had no influence over the Luka Doncic trade, stating that he was just as shocked as everyone else when the deal was finalized. After selling his majority stake in the Dallas Mavericks in 2023, Cuban no longer had control over basketball decisions, leaving the franchise’s leadership in the hands of new owner Patrick Dumont and general manager Nico Harrison.

Cuban revealed that he only learned about the trade moments before it was announced, expressing confusion over the move and emphasizing that if he had any say, Doncic would still be in Dallas.

Mark Cuban responded to the backlash with a simple message: “MFFL” (Mavericks Fan for Life), signaling his continued support for the team despite the controversial decision.
