Although the Dallas Mavericks reached the NBA Finals last season, the Luka Doncic-led team hasn’t played that well in the past few weeks. In turn, former NBA champion and sports analyst Kendrick Perkins claimed that Kyrie Irving, not the Slovenian point guard, is already the best player of the team.

Dallas staged a thrilling comeback to defeat the Memphis Grizzlies with a score of 121-116, securing a spot in the NBA Cup quarterfinals. Luka Doncic led the charge with an impressive performance, scoring 37 points and grabbing 12 rebounds. His efforts were complemented by timely three-pointers from Spencer Dinwiddie and P.J. Washington in the closing minutes, helping the Mavs overcome a 15-point deficit.

The game saw a dramatic shift in momentum, particularly in the fourth quarter. After trailing 111-103 with just over three minutes remaining, Dallas unleashed a 16-3 run, fueled by Dinwiddie’s back-to-back three-pointers that ultimately put them ahead for good. Washington also played a crucial role, contributing 18 points to the victory, while Dereck Lively II added a double-double with 17 points and 11 rebounds.

For the Grizzlies, Ja Morant was the standout player, scoring a season-high 31 points, with 15 of those coming in a strong fourth quarter effort. Despite Morant’s individual brilliance, Memphis saw their six-game winning streak come to an end, and they were eliminated from the Cup race. Desmond Bane and Jaren Jackson Jr. also contributed, but the team struggled to maintain their earlier lead.

One of the key statistics from the game was Dallas’s ability to capitalize on free-throw opportunities, making 30 of 44 attempts compared to Memphis’s 13 of 14. This disparity in free-throw shooting proved critical in a tightly contested match.

Looking ahead, the Mavs will embark on a two-game road trip, starting with a matchup against the Washington Wizards. Meanwhile, the Grizzlies aim to bounce back as they prepare to host th

NBA Analyst Kendrick Perkins Claims Kyrie Irving is the Dallas Mavericks’ Best Player So Far

According to Perkins, the former NBA champion has now become Dallas’ best player after Doncic’s recent string of disappointing games. This can be seen in a video shared by Playback on X.

Along with Perkins’ claim, the Mavs achieved an unexpected victory over the Memphis Grizzlies despite committing a staggering 25 turnovers. Irving, who struggled with his shooting, expressed disbelief at the team’s resilience to win under such circumstances. He contributed to the turnover count but remained upbeat about the result.

Key players like PJ Washington and Spencer Dinwiddie hit crucial three-pointers in the final moments, helping Dallas secure their fifth consecutive win. This victory highlights the team’s determination and camaraderie, especially as they navigate injuries to Doncic. The Mavs are proving their depth and adaptability.
