There’s probably no one on earth who knows basketball that Dallas Mavericks made the mistake of trading away their franchise player Luka Doncic at his peak. The attention should be now on what kind of future they will have with him gone.

Their former assistant coach God Shammgod has one thing in mind – everyone out there will be soon gone.
Shammgod is an assistant coach with the Orlando Magic now but before that, he was a player development coach with the Mavs. He joined the team in 2019, one year after the arrival of Doncic who was the team’s third overall pick.
He was there when general manager Nico Harrison gave the green light on the trade. The team received Anthony Davis and Max Christie in the deal. However, AD is often injured and is older than Doncic who is only 26.

Although the assistant coaches were kept in the dark, the atmosphere within the team indicated it was not a good decision, according to Shammgod.
Luka Doncic trade meant ticking time bomb for others
Shammgod said it felt like everyone is now living on a countdown and their time in Dallas will be up, too.
“The thing about Dallas was, it was just getting spooky times, man. I love Dallas, and I’m cool with everyone that’s over there,” he said during a guesting on the It Is What It Is show with rapper Cam’Ron.
“When the thing [Doncic trade] went down, it was one of those things, if someone treats your man like that, it’s a countdown.”

Even former team owner Mark Cuban thinks it is a bad trade. He said he does not regret selling his ownership of Mavericks but he regrets the provisions he agreed to. He thought he could have stopped the trade if only he still has the voice.
Mavericks somehow found a solace four months after the trade after receiving the first pick of 2025 and used it to select future franchise player Cooper Flagg.
