Cam Spencer made sure that the Memphis Grizzlies didn’t lose to the San Antonio Spurs for the third time this season, as he hit the game-winning jumper late in the 106-105 home victory on Tuesday night.
With less than 45 seconds left, Spencer had Luke Kornet on him after a switch. The Memphis Grizzlies combo guard took his time and eventually hit a clutch stepback midrange jumper with 36.5 seconds left. In the final possession, Santi Aldama iced the game with his game-saving block on De’Aaron Fox.
“With him, it’s very hard to think about bad shots,” head coach Tuomas Iisalo said via the Memphis Commercial Appeal. “I don’t think bad shots exist for him.”
Spencer finished the game with a joint-team high 21 points, eight rebounds, and eight assists on 8-for-15 shooting from the field across 30 minutes of action. He started in place of Ja Morant, who was on the sidelines due to a calf injury.

Memphis Grizzlies News: Cam Spencer gets 100% real on his solid performance vs. San Antonio Spurs
Before his heroics against the San Antonio Spurs, Cam Spencer had been struggling, as he failed to score double-digit points in his previous four games. All of that changed on Tuesday, as the Memphis Grizzlies guard scored 18 of his 21 points in the second half, including the final five to steal the victory against one of the Western Conference’s top seeds.
“I really was only thinking about winning, just making the right play for the team, guarding well, and locking into the scouting report that the coaches set for us,” Spencer said of his mindset. “Just really happy that everybody got the job done for us tonight.”
“It’s Cam,” Jaylen Wells said of Spencer. “I’ve seen the work he’s put in. He’s in the gym all the time. He shoots those shots and puts in the work. When he shoots any shot, I’m 100% confident it’s going in.”
