Memphis Grizzlies rookie big man Zach Edey continues to amaze and turn doubters into believers before the start of the 2024-25 NBA regular season.

On Monday, the first-year center out of the Purdue Boilermakers basketball program shined anew, as Edey threw his weight around and mustered 23 points on an efficient 10-for-15 shooting from the floor while adding nine rebounds, an assist, and a steal against the Indiana Pacers.

Perhaps the most impressive about Edey’s performance in the 120-116 win on the road over the Pacers was the fact that he racked up all those numbers in just 19 minutes off the bench. That kind of effectiveness over a relatively short time further proves that Edey’s game translates just fine into the pro level.

The 22-year-old Edey, who also stands 7’4,” is among the most polarizing figures in the NBA today, with many believing that he won’t be as effective in the league as he was during his time with the Boilermakers. While just as many people think that Edey is going to be just fine.

During his four-year stint with the Boilermakers, Edey, who was selected ninth overall at the 2024 NBA draft by the Grizzlies, averaged 18.2 points and 9.6 rebounds across 138 games.

“It’s crazy to me that Zach Edey is already this talented despite, for all intensive purposes, being an unpolished project.  One of the highest ceilings I’ve seen for a player at his age (he’s only played basketball for 7 years)”
