There’s a belief that Ja Morant‘s days with the Memphis Grizzlies are numbered. Earlier in the 2025-26 NBA season, Morant and the Grizzlies took center stage due to a reported rift. It was between the star guard and the coaching staff, as they weren’t seeing eye to eye. Since then, trade rumors have emerged, putting the point guard’s future at stake.
Morant has appeared in 12 games this season, averaging 17.9 points, 3.5 rebounds and 7.6 assists. He hasn’t played like an All-Star this season and looks disconnected from the team. He’s also shooting a career-worst 16.7% from beyond the arc. Although he’s not known as a threat from deep, shooting lower than 20% is a first for the athlete.
On Sunday, The Stein Line’s Jake Fischer revealed that an Eastern Conference team had shown interest in potentially trading for Morant.

Fischer reported that the Miami Heat has explored how Ja Morant could fit in the organization. The Heat are among the candidates to trade for Milwaukee Bucks star Giannis Antetokounmpo. The league insider emphasized how the Heat are considered buyers in the trade market.
“Miami was already shaping into a surprising buyer on this trade market even before this week’s Giannis headlines. League sources say that the Heat, for example, have had internal discussions about Memphis’ Ja Morant and how Miami’s infrastructure could benefit him,” Fischer wrote.

The Heat are 14-10 this year and could use a talented backcourt star in Morant. In their past three games, Miami shuffled between Davion Mitchell and Dru Smith at point guard. Having an elite ball handler like the Grizzlies star could change things for the East team.
NBA executives aren’t big fans of Ja Morant

Over the past few seasons, Ja Morant has dealt with various injuries and off-court issues. This has slightly affected his performance and overall image across the NBA. A recent report from ESPN’s Tim MacMahon and Bobby Marks revealed that executives aren’t fond of the Grizzlies star.
“The combination of pain in the a**, injury prone, not that good anymore and big contract is a bad one,” said an East executive.
The Eastern Conference executive also said that regardless of Morant’s salary, they wouldn’t consider trading for the former Murray State star.
Morant has had health issues, limiting his time on the court. Additionally, the off-court issues led many to view him as immature and unprofessional. He’s received several suspensions for his activities off the court.
