Jimmy Butler is officially getting traded. From the Miami Heat, he would now travel to the Bay Area to join Steph Curry and the Golden State Warriors. As the NBA trade deadline closes in, fans finally had some form of closure from the Butler and Heat drama that has spanned weeks now. As this news broke out online, the Heat is playing with the Philadelphia 76ers and one fan had to deliver the news to the Miami bench.

Earlier this Wednesday, a day before the NBA trade deadline, news of a Jimmy Butler trader finally broke out, and it was confirmed that he was traded to the Warriors. The Warriors, in turn, also let go of a few names from their current roster. However, as this got public, the Heat was in the middle of a game with the Sixes, and one fan had to break the news to the players on the Heat bench.

As seen in this video, one fan detailed to the Heat bench the trade that transpired. Among the players listening was Tyler Herro, who one fan noticed was “too happy before anything was even said.”

For the past weeks now, Jimmy Butler has been one of the most talked about names when it comes to trade news, if not NBA news entirely. He had gone public asking for a trade out of the Heat, and the Heat, in turn, suspended him over his statement. He eventually got more suspensions, with the last one being an indefinite suspension over missing practice.

Jimmy Butler last played for the Miami Heat in a game against the Portland Trail Blazers on January 21. He then faced indefinite suspension and eventually got traded.

In another blockbuster deal this trade season—although labeled by some fans as not that huge of a deal compared to the Anthony Davis and Luka Doncic Trade—Jimmy Butler was acquired by the Golden State Warriors. Although not explicitly stated, people are assuming that this is part of the Warriors’ long-rumored strategy of building a championship-caliber team around their aging star player Steph Curry.

In the three-way deal, the Warriors receive Butler while the Heat gets Andrew Wiggins, PJ Tucker, and a protected first-round pick. The Detroit Pistons got Lindy Waters III and Josh Richardson. The Utah Jazz gets Dennis Schroder from the Warriors. Schroder was traded from the Brooklyn Nets only in December 2024.

Jimmy Butler got traded out of the Miami Heat for a two-year, $111 million extension with the Golden State Warriors, keeping him with the team through the 2026-27 season.
