Miami Heat insider Ira Winderman recently revealed that the team has considered buying out Terry Rozier’s $26.6 million contract to make room for another roster addition.

“The Heat also could open such tax space for another player by merely waiving Rozier by the NBA contract guarantee deadline of Jan. 10, when all contracts become guaranteed,” Winderman wrote. “However, if the Heat were to take such a wait-and-see approach with Rozier and the veteran guard were to be injured and sidelined for the season, his full $26.6 million would be guaranteed.”

“There have been discussions about a Rozier buyout, but those talks have not gained traction, without any outside options for the veteran guard at the moment, as Rozier remains linked to a federal gambling investigation,” he added.

Rumors involving Rozier and the Miami Heat have been prevalent in the past few weeks, as the former, whose performances with the team have dropped, is involved in a federal investigation related to sports betting during his time with the Charlotte Hornets.

In the same report, Winderman wrote that the Miami Heat have explored the possibility of bringing back free agent Precious Achiuwa, the team’s 2020 first-round selection, to bolster their frontcourt depth this offseason.

“The Heat have been in ongoing discussions with Precious Achiuwa, the team’s 2020 first-round pick, about a possible spot in the team’s power rotation, which is particularly limited at center,” Winderman said.

“The Heat rotation at center at the moment features Kel’el Ware, Bam Adebayo, and Vlad Goldin. Adebayo has stressed a desire not to be cast at the position, while Goldin remains a developmental project, with his two-way contract limiting him to 50 games on the active roster during the regular season,” he added.
