“Mystified by His Decline” – Miami Heat Reportedly Have No Trade Takers for 10-Year Veteran Guard

The Miami Heat have been reportedly shopping Terry Rozier. But according to one team insider, the trade market has dried up for the 31-year-old combo guard.

Rozier is entering the final year of his current contract next season, where he’ll earn roughly $26.6 million before becoming an unrestricted free agent in the summer of 2026. It can be noted that the former 16th overall pick had been the subject of a “potential gambling probe.”

“The Heat coaches had no issue with Rozier’s work ethic or team commitment, but no one seems to be expecting a turnaround. And now there are more issues. The Heat have a very crowded guard room, which leaves little space for Rozier to rehabilitate his value with playing time,” Ethan J. Skolnick wrote in his column.

“Also, while Rozier was cleared by the NBA for any role in a fantasy sports and gambling scandal tied to his tenure with Charlotte, prior to joining the Heat, the FBI launched its own investigation. There is no timetable on when that investigation will conclude. Until it does, one league insider told Five Reasons Sports that Rozier is considered ‘toxic’ in a trade,” he added.

Miami Heat expected to be active in the summer of 2027, per insider

The Miami Heat haven’t made any groundbreaking moves this offseason, as they only added Simone Fontecchio and Norman Powell while re-signing Davion Mitchell. However, that could all change in the summer of 2027, per Tim Bontemps of the Hoop Collective podcast.

“I would say the Heat, now, are waiting to see if they can get a player that’s better than Bam Adebayo, and the reason they say the summer of (2027) is that’s when Giannis (Antetokounmpo) is a free agent, that’s when Nikola Jokic is a free agent, that’s when Donovan Mitchell can be a free agent,” Bontemps detailed.

“That’s when a lot of these guys can be available, and we’ve seen the Clippers and these other teams talk about ‘We’re going to wait till the summer of 2027 to have the ability to do something.’ I think the Heat are probably going to sit in that space,” he concluded.
