NBA legend Michael Jordan may be considered by many as the greatest in basketball, but a recent interview with a NASCAR driver revealed he may have a weakness in one sport.

In a podcast interview on “Casuals,” NASCAR driver Bubba Wallace revealed that Michael Jordan, despite being involved with his own NASCAR team, would never drive a race car as a profession.

“No, no, he won’t,” Wallace said. “He taught me that if you know you’re going to go into something and lose, don’t participate. He’ll never get into a race car and I’ll never go and play basketball with him.”

Michael Jordan got into the world of motorsports following his legendary NBA career in 2003. To the surprise of many, Jordan’s competitive fire never fully extinguished. In 2020, he took that passion and partnered up with veteran NASCAR driver Denny Hamlin to create 23XI Racing, which is now represented as a front-running team in the Cup Series.

The undertaking garnered significant attention, not solely due to its celebrity ownership but also for its success in recruiting elite talent, including Bubba Wallace, Tyler Reddick, Riley Herbst, and Corey Heim.

“Last Dance” Director Gave one Michael Jordan Revelation

More than five years after it was released, new information about the making of the famous documentary, “The Last Dance,” revealed the dynamic the director had with the Chicago Bulls legend, particularly when it comes to the use of his personal houses.

“There are certain aspects of his life that he wants to keep private,” Hehir said during an interview with Business Insider, while adding that the Bulls legend was interviewed in three different houses.

“He just didn’t want people to see all that,” he added. “I respected that, so I never pushed back. I knew what his real house looked like, and I knew this is a wealthy guy who has certain tastes, so we wanted something to match that.”

Despite the hurdle, Hehir added that finding alternative houses for the interviews did not prove too hard for them.

“You’d be surprised how quickly people will open their doors when you say, ‘Can Michael Jordan come over and be interviewed at your house?'” Hehir said.

Jordan also set clear boundaries on the storytelling. One stipulation was the right to review all 105 interviews conducted for the documentary before release, ensuring he could clarify statements, offer context, or rebut claims. According to Hehir, this was not about controlling the narrative but about avoiding blindsides or misrepresentation.

The resulting series has been hailed as one of the most influential sports documentaries ever made, chronicling the Chicago Bulls’ dynasty while reinforcing the cultural legacy of Michael Jordan.
